Nystagmus Caused by Neural Activity
Horizontal gaze nystagmus is found in individuals with diseases of the brain, particularly lesions.
Gaze nystagmus can be found in healthy individuals as well. This is known as ‘end-point nystagmus.’ It is less intense than in individuals suffering from disease, but could certainly be sufficient to cause a person to ‘fail’ the horizontal gaze nystagmus test proffered by a law enforcement officer. |
